October 22, 2009 First Visit ~ Oncologist Dr. Peter Curtin

Dee's first visit was with Dr. Curtin at UCSD, Moore's Cancer Center, San Diego.   This appointment was the initial consultation and covered Dee's past medical history and general overview of her current condition. The appointment resulted in additional Lab work, CT Scan and Bone Marrow tests being ordered to determine the extent of the Lymphoma so that a course of treatment can be started.  We anticipate that we will meet with the Dr. again in approximately 10 days to go over the test results and begin the start of her treatment.  Dr. Curtin did inform us that she will require Chemotherapy and an additional therapy, Redux, which will be given in conjunction with the Chemo and will be conducted in 21 day intervals.  The Dr. advised her that she will lose her hair and Dee promptly advised him that she would be willing to shave it off.  Dr. Curtin said "No need, we will take care of that!"  (Nice to know that they share a sense of humor).  The Dr. also told her that she should  plan on staying in San Diego for at least 6 months for treatment.  We ask you to continue to pray that her tests will prove that the Lymphoma was caught in the early stages and that the treatment will eradicate the cancer and lessen her pain.  We really felt confidence in Dr. Curtin and are extremely hopeful in his recommended course of treatment.

  2. Hey Dee: Skip and I woke up this morning and both said we spent most of the night praying for you. We love you so much and pray that God will heal this cancer and ease all your pain. I know we must accept God's timing in everything, but I'm sure praying He will HURRY! You have a wonderful family praying for and supporting you. Like I always told my kids..."I'm going to live long enough to be a burden to you!" :) I know you are loved by everyone and you're always a blessing, not a burden! God bless you and bro, Bernie.
